Coyotes Revive Kachina Logo as Primary
Return to the Past
On September 20, 2021, the Arizona Coyotes announced the return of their iconic Kachina logo as the team's primary logo, effective with the 2021-22 season. The move marks a shift from the previous logo, which had been in use since 2003.
Kachina History
The Kachina logo was first introduced in 1996, when the Coyotes relocated to Phoenix from Winnipeg. Inspired by traditional Southwestern design, the logo featured a kachina, a spiritual figure from Hopi and Zuni mythology. The kachina logo quickly became one of the most polarizing logos in NHL history, with fans either loving or hating it.
The Return
After three years of being used as a secondary logo, the Coyotes decided to bring the Kachina logo back as their primary logo. The move was met with mixed reactions, but the team believes that the logo is a better representation of their identity and their connection to the Phoenix community.
Secondary Status
The previous Coyotes logo, which was introduced in 2003, will now be relegated to secondary status. The new logo will be featured on the team's uniforms, hats, and other merchandise.
Valley Sports History
The original Coyotes logo was inspired by a collection of dolls. In a recent poll, the logo was voted the greatest in Valley sports history, solidifying its popularity among the team's fanbase.
