South Carolina is searching for a new athletic director, as Ray Tanner will transition to a new role within the athletic department, the school announced Monday.

Tanner has been South Carolina's athletic director since 2012, and he has overseen a period of success for the Gamecocks.

Under Tanner's leadership, South Carolina has won six national championships, including the 2010 and 2011 College World Series titles.

Tanner's new role will be announced at a later date

Tanner's new role within the athletic department has not yet been announced, but he is expected to remain in a leadership position.

South Carolina president Robert Caslen thanked Tanner for his service as athletic director.

"Ray Tanner has been an outstanding athletic director for the University of South Carolina," Caslen said. "He has led our athletic department to unprecedented success, both on and off the field."

Tanner is a South Carolina alumnus and former baseball coach

Tanner is a South Carolina alumnus and former baseball coach.

He was the head coach of the Gamecocks baseball team from 1996 to 2012, and he led the team to two national championships.

Tanner was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
