Bayer Leverkusen In Europa League Semis Stretch Undefeated Run To 44 Matches

Bayer Leverkusen in Europa League semis, stretch undefeated run to 44 matches

Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League semi-finals

Bayer Leverkusen's 34-game unbeaten streak across all competitions is as much a result of tremendous squad depth as it is the attacking prowess of Moussa Diaby and Patrik Schick

Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday with a 1-0 win over Atalanta, extending their unbeaten run across all competitions to 44 matches.

Charles Aranguiz's first-half goal was enough to secure a 4-2 aggregate victory for Leverkusen, who will now face newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the last four.

Leverkusen's remarkable run of form has been built on a solid foundation of squad depth and tactical flexibility.

Young French winger Moussa Diaby has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions, while Czech striker Patrik Schick has also been among the goals with 17 strikes.

However, it is the likes of Kerem Demirbay, Florian Wirtz and Exequiel Palacios who have provided the energy and creativity in midfield, allowing Diaby and Schick to flourish up front.

Leverkusen's Europa League campaign has been equally impressive, with the German side winning all six of their group games before knocking out Rangers and Atalanta in the knockout stages.

Now, they face their biggest test yet against Bayern Munich, who are bidding to win their first Europa League title since 1996.

Leverkusen will be underdogs in the semi-final, but they will be confident of causing an upset.

They have already shown that they can compete with the best teams in Europe, and they will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run and reach the final.
