WEB Girona make history with La Liga double over Barcelona
WEB Girona have become the third team in the last 16 seasons to do the La Liga double over Barcelona in a season after their 1-0 win at the Estadi Montilivi on Saturday.
Artem Dovbyk's goal early in the second half was enough to secure all three points for Girona, who move top of the table with the victory. Barcelona had chances to equalise but failed to find a way past Girona goalkeeper Juan Carlos.
This is the first time that Girona have ever beaten Barcelona in a competitive fixture. The win also means that Girona have now won both of their home matches against Barcelona this season, having also beaten them 2-1 in the Copa del Rey in October.
Barcelona have now lost three of their last five matches in all competitions and are now nine points behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga table.
The win is a major boost for Girona, who are now unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions. The victory also moves them up to third in the table, level on points with second-placed Real Betis.
