Chelsea Drop Points in Sheffield United Draw
Late Equaliser Dents Blues' European Hopes
Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Sheffield United on Saturday, as Thiago Silva's early goal and Noni Madueke's late strike were canceled out by Oli McBurnie's last-minute equalizer.
The Blues started the game brightly and took the lead after just 15 minutes through Silva, who headed home a corner kick. However, Sheffield United responded well and equalized through McBurnie just before halftime.
Chelsea regained the lead in the second half when Madueke scored a stunning individual goal, but once again, Sheffield United refused to be beaten and McBurnie struck again in the dying minutes to earn his side a point.
The draw leaves Chelsea in seventh place in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. The Blues' hopes of qualifying for Europe are now hanging in the balance, and they will need to finish the season strongly if they want to secure a top-four finish.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, remain bottom of the table but they will take heart from their performance against Chelsea. With seven games remaining, the Blades are still not mathematically safe from relegation, but they will fancy their chances of staying up if they can continue to play with the same spirit and determination.
